Transformed

transformed

It really doesn’t matter who you were or who I was. What matters is who we are now in Christ and how we are being continually transformed by the renewing of our minds (a new and different way of perceiving everything, a change in how we think, and a fresh view of ourselves and others) and our refusal to be conformed to the usual ways and thinking prevalent in our world – and that world’s view of each of us and our futures.

Transformation seems like such a huge word and a process that happens outside. It shows on the outside in our demeanor, words, and actions, but it all really takes place in our thoughts. In our minds. A new perceiver (my made up word for the process/place in our mind). A new point of view. A new way of thinking.

Conforming takes place there first, too. Wherever we go in our thoughts; conformation follows. We are molded and our lives are navigated by our thinking.

Sound familiar???

Romans 12:2 (NLT)
Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.

It’s Time To Know

time to know

Shhhhhhhh.

Get really quiet. If not right now, sometime before you go to bed tonight. Again tomorrow.

What is the Holy Spirit speaking to your heart? What is stirring in you? Not the 20 things that go zooming through several times a day. Not the 10 things. The 1, 2 or 3 things that just kind of hang out 24/7 at different levels of consciousness. Sometimes, it/they are LOUD and CLEAR. Sometimes they are just whispering and on the periphery of your daily activities. But they are there. Always there.

Maybe you swat it away. Dismiss it. Or, override it every time it surfaces for your consideration. You don’t have time. You don’t have the energy. You don’t have the support. You don’t have the money. You’ve made too many mistakes. You don’t know how. All the usual reasons we have for why we don’t do what is in our hearts and live The Plan and our Destiny. [Read more…]

Need some NEW?

all things new

The 61st chapter of Isaiah is rich in revealing the heart and purpose of our Heavenly Father. It is about healing and restoration and wholeness. I love the promises in verses 1-3.

Isaiah 61:1-3 (NLT)
The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is upon Me,
for the Lord has anointed Me
to bring good news to the poor.
He has sent Me to comfort the brokenhearted
and to proclaim that captives will be released
 and prisoners will be freed.
2 He has sent Me to tell those who mourn
that the time of the Lord’s favor has come,
and with it, the day of God’s anger against their enemies.
3 To all who mourn in Israel,
He will give a crown of beauty for ashes,
a joyous blessing instead of mourning,
 festive praise instead of despair.
In their righteousness, they will be like great oaks
that the Lord has planted for His own glory.

Poor? Brokenhearted? Captive? Trapped? Imprisoned? Mourning? Attacked?

The good news here is that obviously whatever…WHATEVER has happened, is happening, or will ever happen in my life and your life has a God-solution that heals, restores, changes things, and makes them new! [Read more…]

Count Your MANY Blessings

Count Your Blessings

Middle of the night. Awake and restless.

There are some things I am working on that are pivotal to the people and companies I serve. Critical decisions have to be made. Important and significant to the people I care about and am working with.

Personal stuff, too. I was not feeling great and am needing direction on some decisions as well.

That snug-jawed, wound-a-little-tight, shoulder blade pull was starting to happen.

Nope. Not doing that. Not going there. We cannot change anything by worrying. (Matt 6:27) I move my thoughts to the Lord and the Word…frankly, a bit of a struggle to do so at first. [Read more…]

The Measure of Success…

 Success-is-different-for

Proverbs 16:3 (NLT)
Commit your actions to the LORD,
 and your plans will succeed.

Frustration. Failure. Broken dreams. Missed expectations. We’re surrounded by a whole lot of what seems to be evidence that dreams don’t come true; that the most treasured plans many folks have are doomed to never come to fruition. With all of the pain, misery and brokenness clearly visible, it may feel that there isn’t much we – or anyone – can do to assure an expected outcome and great future. That true happiness and success are either a fluke or reserved for the few.

So, those with faith in some form of higher power kind of shrug their shoulders and call every “bad break” some sort of result (either through active or passive purpose) of that higher power. Somehow, it wasn’t “in the cards” (referring to tarot). “The gods” weren’t looking favorably on it. “The universe…” “Fate…”

The subtle assumptions built on centuries of disappointments have created an underbelly of fatalistic views – even in Christians many times.

As believers, we don’t have to be helplessly carried along by circumstances, genetics, the economy – any of the things that society and history tell us are beyond our control. I’m not saying that these things don’t present challenges. They may. They do. BUT, as beloved children of the Most High God Who loves us with an endless, limitless love (Psalm 36:7) and renews us in mercy (Lamentations 3:22-23) and surrounds us with favor (Psalm 5:12) every day, as unfair as it sounds, WE have a distinct advantage and the edge that allows us to have results in life that are not dictated by circumstances…individual circumstances or collective circumstances.

And, we are not left in the dark about how that works… [Read more…]

Trusting God’s Timing

You can’t have patience without trust. And, you can’t trust without patience.~Debby

Timing. I really, really do want things to happen in God’s perfect timing. I do.

I just want His perfect timing to be NOW!

Hebrews 4:16 (NLT)
So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive His mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most.

The original Greek for the part of the scripture that is translated here “when we need it most” is the word “eukairos.” The definition for it as it is used here is “well timed, timely, suitable, strategic, opportunely.”

Sometimes, I really struggle with this. I get impatient. Frustrated. Irritated. Disappointed. Whatever “help” I need, it feels like NOW is “when we need it most” for me. NOW. Waiting isn’t great even when we are waiting for something exciting and fun. It really isn’t great when we are under pressure, in physical or emotional pain, in limbo, or seem to be stranded in some confusing life issue. [Read more…]

Big, Bold, Endless Love

“And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love…”

Romans 8 is one of my favorite passages in the Bible. Right before this statement, Paul lists a number of unpleasant things and wants to make sure that we know that this amazing love of God doesn’t mean that we are free from seriously icky stuff happening to us or around us. Then, he assures us that even in and through those things, we will emerge MORE than conquerors. Alright, Paul. How? Why?

Because of the love of God that is ever-present, ever-active, ever-victorious. In this same chapter, I love the verse that says if God is for us, who can be against us?

So, after the assurance that nothing can separate us from that crazy love (thank you Francis Chan), Paul lists some examples of things that sometimes make it seem like God’s love has changed or failed – and wants us to know that none of them have the power to keep God’s love from us or us from His love. He goes so far as to end the list with the fact that nothing has ever been created…no created thing…can do it. That nails it down. Nothing means NOTHING!

Let’s talk about Conquering, Triumphing, and Overcoming

We are not conquerors without something to conquer.

We cannot triumph without something to triumph over.

We cannot be overcomers without something to overcome.

we cannot be victorious…you get the message.

Have you ever been frustrated because it feels like you are stuck?

Like you can’t get from where you are to where you’re going?

Where you want to be? To what’s next?

My NEXT is part of my Promised Land. The fact that there were giants to overcome in possessing the Promised Land was actually irrelevant to the truth of the Promise. The Promise stands sure and established as long as I move forward and into it. The giants cannot stop me unless I choose to let them. [Read more…]
