Wisdom – the Checklist

Imagine how differently areas of our lives would have played out had we operated in the wisdom of God rather than our own understanding.

Good News, Proverbs 1:2 tells us that understanding and insight are available – that we can KNOW and comprehend wisdom. We can perceive wisdom and have insight.

Proverbs 1:2 (AMP)
That people may know skillful and godly Wisdom and instruction, discern and comprehend the words of understanding and insight.

Proverbs 1:2 (NKJ)
To know wisdom and instruction,
To perceive the words of understanding.

One of our greatest spiritual desires and commitments to the Lord should be that we may know skillful and godly wisdom and have great spiritual understanding and insight – AND employ and apply it in all areas of our lives. We know that God wants us to be led by the Holy Spirit in every aspect of our lives every day.

Proverbs 1 also tells us that wisdom cries out to us…it isn’t elusive or hidden. It isn’t playing hard to get.

Sounds good, right? So, how do we get more wisdom?

The book of James says that if we ask for wisdom, God will give it to us generously, in abundance – willingly and without any rebuke.

We ask for it.

1 Corinthians 2:16 (NLT)
For, “Who can know the LORD’s thoughts? Who knows enough to teach Him?” But we understand these things, for we have the mind of Christ.

It isn’t difficult to know whether or not we are operating in godly wisdom.

James 3:17 tells us the characteristics of the wisdom of God – here’s a quick reference and handy guide…

Wisdom of God is:

  • pure
  • peaceable and peace loving
  • gentle at all times
  • full of mercy and good fruits
  • always sincere
  • impartial
  • without hypocrisy

If whatever we are doing or thinking doesn’t meet the James 3:17 list, it isn’t wisdom and it isn’t from God.

As I look at this list, I realize how far I still have to go to walk in godly wisdom on a consistent basis.

I also see that it will always be a process. Referring to the list. Committing to the list. Something I will need to do every day. All day. And, it will change everything. Everything.

I’m looking forward to growing and increasing in godly wisdom and to truly operating as one who has the mind of Christ. And, He’s all for it. And, He’s all for me. He’s all for you, too.

God is good. And, He adores us.

Testimonials

Several weeks ago I shared Debby’s words about transformation with the women at Whitworth Women’s Prison in Georgia. They were so excited to get it deep down in their spirit that God loves them and He adores them. I had the entire gym repeating it as loud as they could. I wish you could have heard them. Thank you, Debby, for sharing all that you do! What a blessing!
